In a world of social networks and a influx of information which seemingly create a global consciousness, does that mean we’re being more socially conscious? According to Wikipedia, “Social consciousness is consciousness shared within a society. It can also be defined as social awareness; to be aware of the problems that different societies and communities face on a day-to-day basis; to be conscious of the difficulties and hardships of society.” To us that is a little negative although we are trying to solve people’s hardships and make people more aware.
OUR DEFINITTION OF SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS
Well simply put, the recognition and realization that we are ALL connected. We are connected in ways that we may not even realize, but if you accept that fact, you will start to look at everything you encounter and every person you interact with as a part of you, you are being socially conscious. Being socially conscious means that essentially you are following the Golden Rule at all times with people, business, nature and most importantly your thoughts. We want humans to be more humane and work cooperatively as a unit rather than as separated pieces. Having read this you have already changed and are becoming more awake and conscious whether you realize it or not.
CAN YOU GET MORE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS?
Think about this for a moment… What do they do to the worst people in prison? They put them in solitary. So wouldn’t the opposite of that be a lot of people working together? This is not a hard thing to do, but it’s certainly not natural thing to do after about 1 years old. As infants and toddlers, we are pure and innocent and aren’t taught that we are supposed to fear anything. I say taught because fear is a learned behavior. Through the media, our parents, our peers and our environment, people are taught to be fearful of things. Fear is what separates people. Fear is not all bad, for example, it’s not recommended that you walk up to a lion in the middle of the Serengeti and expect nothing to happen, but irrational fears that get in our souls are bad. Fears like not being accepted or not being good enough or smart enough, not having enough money or a high enough status or the real devastator not being loved enough or lovable. The New Radar is created to help take those fears away from people by showing love and by showing people who are being loving. Regular people that have done amazing things and regular people doing positive things and contributing to society in their own way. We’ll teach people to look at the world differently.
JUST A SIDE NOTE
One late random night a show came on with a seminar by Dr. Wayne Dyer promoting his book and essentially way of life called “The Power of Intention” that is a way of looking at being socially
conscious. This book and concept is actually nothing new if you’ve been exposed to “The Secret” and movies like “What the Bleep Do We Really Know?”, but the way Dyer explained the power of intention really resonated and helped give a concise definition of being socially conscious. He says’ “Intention is a force in the universe and everyone and everything is connected to this invisible force.”
You may get sucked into watching this movie Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, but you’ll probably get it after the first 10 minutes. If you really want to have your mind expanded exponentially, watch the whole thing…it’s like almost three hours, so you may want to break it into hour segments.
WHAT’S THE POINT?
We are all artists in our own right and each person has a story to tell and a talent they need to share with the world. That’s the point of The New Radar. We were being bombarded with mass marketing emails, facebook messages, twitter messages, tv commercials that weren’t doing much to stir emotion or inspire us to do anything, but be consumers and that doesn’t help us move forward as a society.
While we want you to support The New Radar, the businesses, social organizations and people we feature monetarily, we want people to have a platform to tell their stories about their art. We want to tell stories and get you to know and connect with the PEOPLE behind the business. We want to create a culture of people helping people because at the end of the day, that is what it’s all about.
We look at it as contributing and supporting rather than consuming. The people and businesses we promote are selected and screened based on their commitment and desire to being more socially conscious, greener and being a part of the local and global community and economy. Every business in the network is actually a place that has been visited or recommended by another member… and then visited. We will NOT promote any business we wouldn’t recommend or use ourselves. If you’ve read this far, you’re already on your way to being a more involved socially conscious global citizen and by default more connected.
The New Radar doesn’t have advertisers or advertisements. We have members/supporters and we tell stories.
