For many artists, the Talbott Street Art Fair is a great showcase of almost 300 national and Indiana artists to see and be seen. In its 56th year, the art fair delivered a wide array of artists displaying a diverse interpretation of the word art. There were plenty of paintings and canvass pieces that one would expect. There were a few surprises though when coming across 3-D pieces, some interesting metal pieces that actually moved, glass balls, metal fountains and even music provided by a didgeridoo and violin.
The weather was a little warm, but people still came out in what seemed like the thousands down the long corridor of booths and visual treats. Most of the artists were very friendly and more than happy to talk about their craft and inspirations. We ended up talking to a number of the artists who said their art originally started off as a hobby that turned into a full time job and that although it is tough at times, doing what they love and creating makes it all worth it.
We even saw some creativity with the patrons of the festival and saw a solution to a very interesting problem. We came across a doggie stroller which was perfect for people who have small dogs and want to bring pets to an event where pets aren’t preferred. There was an extremely diverse crowd both in culture and age range and both adults and children alike seemed to really enjoy themselves. The event had a great vibe to it and we are definitely looking forward to the 57th year!
