J.R. Waldon, AKA DJ gNO (pronounced Know) has been heavily influenced by music all his life. He never played any musical instruments growing up however his passion for music has been the one constant in his life. Dj gNO interned and was hired by Emmis Communications former radio station 105.7 in 2001 as a remote broadcast tech and frequently set up the DJ’s equipment. After finishing undergrad and moving to new york city J.R. found another internship in the city with Universal Music Group and soon thereafter landed a job working with 98.7 Kiss FM and Hot 97 in their marketing departments.
Simultaneously J.R. became quite the nightlife efficianado as he marketed and promoted several of NYC’s nightclubs. With the nightlife becoming more competitive and less lucrative J.R. started thinking about ways to evolve in a positive way.
In 2006 J.R. promoted and frequented a nightclub called Stereo who always kept a rotation of solid DJ’s spinning. The venue had its DJ booth set up in the VIP so it was easy to see the DJ’s do their thing. The new Serato technology caught his attention so he found his nights at Stereo watching every DJ such as Suss One, Juske, and DJ AM perform. With some consultation from DJ Indiana Jones, and as a result of experiencing such wonderful talent at Stereo and other NYC venues, J.R. was inspired to evolve into DJ gNO.
