For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been recognized as one of the most effective youth-service organizations in the United States. It is the oldest and largest mentoring organization in the country, serving young people nationwide,including more than 1,100 youth in central Indiana this past year alone.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana develops mentors committed to helping boys and girls grow into the next generation of caring, confident, and competent adults.
PURPOSE:
Providing youth (Littles) with an adult friendship that is consistent, ongoing, supportive, educational, safe and fun. Supplying mentors (Bigs) with the resources and support they need to be effective mentors to a young person in need. Enhancing the ongoing relationship (Match) between a Big and a Little with intentional activities and asset-building opportunities.
PROGRAMS:
We serve youth between the ages of 8 and 18 in Marion, Hamilton and Johnson counties. Youth are enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana program between the ages of 8-14. Mentoring relationships are supported by BBBSCI until the youth reaches the age of 18 or graduates from high school.
Young people enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters come from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Some common backgrounds and challenges many of the youth in our program face include:
* Youth of an incarcerated family member;
* Youth living with a non-parent guardian;
* Youth with a personal need for the guidance and friendship of a caring adults

* Achieving a greater sense of awareness and excitement about their future
* Developing a positive attitude toward school and learning
