After 100 years how one might question how there could be anything new in Indianapolis during the month of May. Fortunately for race fans, socially conscious event goers and fans of a good time, Memorial Day weekend was full of events, parties, fundraisers and activities.

This year, we covered a new event that started off the weekend on a good note. “The Jocktails at the 500″ party benefiting Racing for Cancer.   The event was a collaborative effort by J. Wagner Group and Fresh Marketing, LLC. sponsored by Grey Goose, held at Hyde. The drinks were flowing freely as attendees sipped signature Grey Goose cocktails and listened to the energetic sounds provided by DJ gNO on the turntables. The guest list included the who’s who of local and national celebrities, race car drivers and was the place to see and be seen. Over $1850 was raised in about 3 hours just from tips, which goes to show that you can have fun and party for a purpose. SEE VIDEO FROM JOCKTAILS AT THE 500

Friday and Saturday were split in a whirlwind of activity between the 500 Parade, cookouts and the Fantasy 500 Race Party, now being held at the Columbia Club, a historic Indianapolis venue, but new location to the annual event now in its fourth year.

If you made it through the first three days of activity and made it to the race, you were in for a super star studded event and one of the more exciting finishes in recent history that went down to the last turn.  The likes of Mekhi Phifer, Seal, Kelly Clarkson, Miss America, Jerry Rice and far too many to list showed up for the centennial running of the historic race See the exciting finish video!

To round out the actual race day festivities, Crush Entertainment’s Big Finish party at Sensu was the hot ticket!  In its second year having moved from Mo’s A Place for Steaks, the Big Finish was even bigger and better than last year. The extra space was needed as the drivers, their entourages, the socialites and those still functional from the previous 72 hours of entertainment were in the new downtown hotspot. DJ Gabby Love, DJ Lockstar DJ Indiana Jones and the Crush crew kept a soundtrack to the night that wouldn’t let you sit for more than 5 mins at a time. Despite a few overzealous VIP gatekeepers (who did their jobs a little too well) flexing their walkie talkie muscle, we made it to the top and enjoyed all the perks of rolling with the high rollers. If you didn’t make it to the upper level, have no fear you only missed a slightly less crowded area, better view and free drinks although oddly enough, the people did get a little better looking. All in all the event was a success and will only get bigger next year, so plan on getting your tickets early.

 Until next year…
